Who are we?
Wealden Astronomical Society is a small friendly
club. We’re a young club too; just three years old. The group
was formed by a handful of enthusiasts from the outlying areas
of the district of Sussex known as Wealden.
New members are welcome. Since our members come
from many different backgrounds and disciplines, absolute
beginners are as much at home as seasoned amateurs. We work in
collaboration with the Observatory Science Centre, and hence can
boast the most fantastic setting for our regular bi-monthly
meetings; usually Dome B at the Observatory Science Centre Herstmonceux
Along with meetings we arrange viewing evenings
from October to April as often as is possible.
We produce a bi-monthly magazine — The ‘Sirius
News’. The society owns a 12inch (300mm) Dobsonian which is used
at viewing sessions and is available for members use. Some
individual members own their own instruments too and we promote
all kinds of observing from Meteor Showers to Deep Sky objects.
All of our meetings have a presentation by
invited guests from many different backgrounds, with the
exception of the December Christmas Party.
